Readers Roundtable
Book Group, Thursday, April 1, 2:00 p.m. For
Adults
"Peace Like a River"
by Leif Enger is the next title the library's book group will
discuss on Thurs, April 1 at 2:00 p.m. "Enger tells the story of eleven-year-old
Reuben Land, an asthmatic boy who has reason to believe in miracles. Along
with his sister and father, Reuben finds himself on a cross-country search
for his outlaw older brother who has been controversially charged with
murder. Their journey is touched by serendipity and the kindness of strangers,
and its remarkable conclusion shows how family, love, and faith can stand
up to the most terrifying of enemies, the most tragic of fates." Click
for more reviews. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation
Desk. New members are always welcomed. If there is sufficient
interest, an evening discussion will be held on Tues, April 6 at 7 p.m.
Please call Leslie Kruegel (201) 796-3400, ex. 5. if you want to attend

We Celebrated
the Library's 75th Anniversary with an Open House on May 4, 2:00 to 4:00
p.m.
75
years ago a spirited group headed by Dr. Maurice M. Pine started the library
with a small collection of books in a room next to his office. The
following year the Mayor and Council provided a room in the Municipal Building
and, in 1944, the library came under municipal control. Since then
the library has grown, supported by Fair Lawn citizens, to become one of
the best in the county.
On
Sunday, May 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. we had a wonderful celebration with
entertainment, refreshments, presentations about the library, chances to
win gift baskets, and children's activities. The library was mobbed and
everyone had a great time. We couldn't have a better community!
Thanks to all who volunteered, staff members, Friends of the Library, members
of the press, and everyone who came to share our celebration. Click
to see lots of photos on a remote site.
Please
visit the library's 75th
Anniversary website
designed by staff member Mary Kirsch. You'll find lots of
interesting facts and pictures about our library's history.
