We Celebrated the Library's 75th Anniversary with an Open House on May 4, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
75 years ago a spirited group headed by Dr. Maurice M. Pine started the library with a small collection of books in a room next to his office.  The following year the Mayor and Council provided a room in the Municipal Building and, in 1944, the library came under municipal control.  Since then the library has grown, supported by Fair Lawn citizens, to become one of the best in the county.
On Sunday, May 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. we had a wonderful celebration with entertainment, refreshments, presentations about the library, chances to win gift baskets, and children's activities. The library was mobbed and everyone had a great time.  We couldn't have a better community!  Thanks to all who volunteered, staff members, Friends of the Library, members of the press, and everyone who came to share our celebration.  Click to see lots of photos on a remote site.
Please visit the library's 75th Anniversary website designed by staff member Mary Kirsch.  You'll find lots of interesting facts and pictures about our library's history.

Friends of the Library kick off 2008 Annual Membership campaign.  So far community members have cotributed over $2,500 in 2008 annual memberships.  Last year the Friends raised over $4,500 from membership contributions and the annual used booksale.  This money was used for "extras" such as supporting the Children's Summer Reading program, the BookPage subscription, and the motion picture license.  The Friends meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month with the next meeting scheduled for Tues, Sept. 9, 8:00 p.m. in the Library Director's Office.  Please consider joining and attending. Click to read more and for a membership form.

Dr. Albert Rosen, 1917-2007
We are deeply saddened by the passing of beloved Fair Lawn pediatrician and library supporter Dr. Albert Rosen.  An avid library patron himself, over the years he made significant contributions to the library endowment. The Rosen Children's Room of the library was renamed in honor of Dr. Albert Rosen and in memory of his wife, Shirley T. Rosen.  Our deepest sympathy is extended to the Rosen family, and our thanks for their generosity in naming the library as one of the institution suggested for memorial donations.

On July 20, 8:00 p.m. to midnight, the library hosted a Harry Potter Lock-in as we awaited the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Community Survey & FAQs
In the fall of 2005 the library conducted a citizen survey that was mailed to each household.  The results are helping us with long range planning. We found that there is considerable satisfaction on the part of our patrons for which we are grateful.  There were some comments and concerns that were expressed consistently on the survey, so we have drawn up a FAQ. Click to read the frequently asked questions (FAQ) and the answers to them.
