Barry Citrin's
Recycled Sculpture in
the Library Gallery
January
10 through Febraury 26, 2010.
A
resident of Fair Lawn for the past 35 years, Citrin retired two years ago.
An admitted pack rat, his retirement has given him the opportunity to clear
out years of accumulation and provided the opportunity to use his design
talents to create art from materials that might otherwise have become land
fill. In an interview Citrin explained, “I find pleasure in visualizing
how discarded items can be recycled in creative ways to transform them
into completely different forms. The materials dictate what I can
do and I respond by reshaping, modifying or recombining to create a visually
pleasing piece of art.” |

on Thurs, Feb. 18 at 2:00 p.m. "As the summer begins, Kate Brown—attractive,
intelligent, forty-five, happily married, with a house in the London suburbs

But by summer's end the woman she was—living behind a protective camouflage
of feminine charm and caring—no longer exists." Click
for more reviews. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation
Desk. New members are always welcomed. If there is sufficient
interest, an evening discussion will be held on Tues, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.

We Celebrated
the Library's 75th Anniversary with an Open House on May 4, 2:00 to 4:00
p.m.
75
years ago a spirited group headed by Dr. Maurice M. Pine started the library
with a small collection of books in a room next to his office. The
following year the Mayor and Council provided a room in the Municipal Building
and, in 1944, the library came under municipal control. Since then
the library has grown, supported by Fair Lawn citizens, to become one of
the best in the county.
On
Sunday, May 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. we had a wonderful celebration with
entertainment, refreshments, presentations about the library, chances to
win gift baskets, and children's activities. The library was mobbed and
everyone had a great time. We couldn't have a better community!
Thanks to all who volunteered, staff members, Friends of the Library, members
of the press, and everyone who came to share our celebration. Click
to see lots of photos on a remote site.
Please
visit the library's 75th
Anniversary website
designed by staff member Mary Kirsch. You'll find lots of
interesting facts and pictures about our library's history.
