COMMUNITY SURVEY-FAQ
In the fall of 2005 the library conducted a citizen survey that was mailed to each household. The results are helping us with long range planning. The results showed that there is considerable satisfaction on the part of our patrons for which we are grateful. There were some comments and concerns that were expressed consistently on the survey that are addressed in the following questions. Can anything be done about the parking situation? We are aware that parking can be a problem. With no land available for parking that is adjacent to the library, this is a problem that defies an easy solution. We will make the concerns of our patrons known to the Borough Manager and hope that in the future some way may be found to alleviate this situation. Why do I have to wait so long for the newest videos and DVDs? The focus of the library is still print materials. While we are devoting an increasing amount of our materials budget for movies, we are unable to purchase multiple copies of the high demand movies like a video store does. Additionally, the newest videos/DVDs are generally NOT available through the BCCLS system in the first several months after release date as the other libraries need them for their own patrons. Later, after the initial demand is satisfied, these movies do become available. We encourage you to reserve these materials either in person or online at www.bccls.org. Please be aware that materials marked rental or hi-demand are not available for out-of-town loan even of the status is “available”. Sometimes I find the library noisy. Can anything be done about that? We are sensitive to the comfort of our patrons regarding noise. From time to time we do ask patrons to lower their voices and in extreme cases ask them to leave. We also ask that all patrons please turn off their cell phones in the library. Why don’t you have wi-fi access at the library? In response to the survey as well as other similar suggestions, we added wi-fi access in late March. We invite you to come in and enjoy it. There are no sign-ups and no time restrictions. Why can’t the library offer more books on tape or CD? We have made it a priority to increase the amount of our materials budget in this area. In addition, through BCCLS we now offer downloading of audio books. It is free. The items are always available and there are never any fines. Visit the BCCLS web site at www.bccls.org for more information. Why can't I renew or check my own library record online? You can do both! With a PIN number you can renew materials and check you own record online. Ask at the Circulation Desk and they will add a PIN to your computer record. Then, at the BCCLS web site, simply click on “your library card” and follow the prompts. Nothing could be easier! Why don’t you bring back the Library Café? We had a café in the library a few years ago that closed after
one year because it was losing money. The company running it felt
it would not succeed. We feel that the conditions are not right for
this type of commercial venture in the library. Since we had high
hopes for this innovation, we are as disappointed as you are.
Can you do anything to make the library more welcoming & comfortable? We are going to devote some of our funds in the near future to purchase some “comfy” chairs as has been suggested. We also will be designing some comfortable reading areas throughout the building. |
