Readers Roundtable Book Group, Thursday, November 19, 2:00 p.m.  For Adults
"Eden Close" by Anita Shreve is the next book the library's book group will discuss on Thurs, Nov. 19 at 2:00 p.m.  "For Andrew and Eden, it's a modern adaptation of paradise lost and then regained. As next-door neighbors, "best buddies," and then awkward adolescents, Eden and Andy find solace in each other's company until a tragic event occurs as Andy prepares to leave their small home town and heads off to college. The awful accident drives them apart, but then inadvertently draws them together again some 15 years later."  (Library Journal review).  Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.  New members are always welcomed.  If there is sufficient interest, an evening discussion will be held on Tues, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m.  Please call Leslie Kruegel (201) 796-3400, ex. 5. if you want to attend the evening group.

We Celebrated the Library's 75th Anniversary with an Open House on May 4, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
75 years ago a spirited group headed by Dr. Maurice M. Pine started the library with a small collection of books in a room next to his office.  The following year the Mayor and Council provided a room in the Municipal Building and, in 1944, the library came under municipal control.  Since then the library has grown, supported by Fair Lawn citizens, to become one of the best in the county.
On Sunday, May 4, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. we had a wonderful celebration with entertainment, refreshments, presentations about the library, chances to win gift baskets, and children's activities. The library was mobbed and everyone had a great time.  We couldn't have a better community!  Thanks to all who volunteered, staff members, Friends of the Library, members of the press, and everyone who came to share our celebration.  Click to see lots of photos on a remote site.
Please visit the library's 75th Anniversary website designed by staff member Mary Kirsch.  You'll find lots of interesting facts and pictures about our library's history.
